This past Saturday's April 28th 2012 Kick Off Party was a huge success!! We are putting SSYC on the map again by hosting The 2012 SSYC Leukemia Cup. Saturday's party was a way for our members to see what The Leukemia Cup is all about. You had some fine wine, beer and some really good Mt Gay Rum Specials. We also had the pleasure to hear a presentation by the 2012 Honored Skipper, Jack McLoone. The Junior Regatta will be held on July 27, 2012 and the Adult Regatta will be held on August 4th 2012. A rewarding and unique awards reception/dinner will follow the Adult Regatta. In addition there will also be the first ever Light the Night ceremony. To enter a boat in the regattas the beginning entry fee starts at $50. The Sanderling Fleet generously donated $200. to this worthy cause. Many thanks goes out to Kelly Zweig the Regatta Campaign Chair, Steve Lapp our Commodore as well as Joel and Rosann Terry who organized the party, They were assisted by Susan Ricker. SSYC Spring Series Gus reports on weekend #1
The First Day of the Spring Series got off to a roaring start with winds out of the Northwest at 10-15 knots, steadily builiding throughout the afternoon with some big gusts under crystal clear blue skies. The Race Committee comprised of the Traditional First PRO of the season, Jim Widdis, assisted by Wolfgang Elsner & David Whittle, with Teams Meehan and Widdis on Rescue Boats and Bryan Holsey along with Kara on the finish boat did a flawless job! The sailing was exhilarating, particularly after the long winter break, but if you were looking for a nice day to slowly work the kinks out, this was not that day: you had to bring your A game! There were a few capsizes during the the race, Team Arnheiter in a 420 and Gary Depice set a record 6 (but managed somehow to stay dry), Brad, on his Comet, had a vang equipment malfunction with the net result a boom reaching for the sky!
THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO VOLUNTEERED FOR RACE COMMITTEE AND THOSE IN THE QUEUE1 YOU MAKE RACING POSSIBLE AT THE CLUB!!
SSYC Junior Program
The SSYC Junior Program begins with a one-week mini-camp on June 25th through June 29th and the summer program begins on July 2nd and continues through to 17 August. The Junior Sailing Program supports beginner, intermediate and advanced classes, as well as a more competitive race team. Additional information and registration material can be found on the Junior Sailing web pages.
Leukemia Cup
SSYC is pleased to be one of the 40 sailing clubs across the United States that will host a Leukemia Cup event during 2012. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Leukemia Cup Regatta is a series of sailing events that combine the joy of boating with the task of raising money to cure cancer. Since inception the Regatta has raised millions of dollars for lifesaving research and patient services, bringing help and hope to patients and their families.
Sailing events are scheduled on Friday, 27 July for Junior sailors and other activities during the weekend of 3-5 August. There are a number of volunteer opportunities. Please contact the SSYC Leukemia Cup chair Vice Commodore Kelly Zweig for details.
2012 Race Schedule
The 2012 SSYC race schedule has been finalized and the events posted to the on-line calendar. As in past years, SSYC has a great mixture of seasonal sailing events that starts with the Spring Series in April and concludes with a new event "The Racing Grand Finale" scheduled for Sunday 14 October. SSYC provides a great sailing venue with exceptionally fine sailors from beginner to expert. As a measure of this sailing success across the years the 2011 NJYRA high point trophy was won by SSYC. Over the past 41 years SSYC has won the hi-point trophy 25 times. In addition, SSYC also won the NJYRA Race Management Award for 2011 denoting the efforts of the Race Committee for the 75th anniversary regatta. Doug and Gordon Milnes shared the Principal Race Officer duties for this event. Inserted photo is the NJYRA Commodore (and SSYC member) Bob Slook presenting the NJYRA High Point Trophy to SSYC Commodore Steve Lapp.

Bowling Night Fun
Who says we don"t have fun on and off the water, just take a look at some these pictures.
Chartered in 1936, our founders established the hrewsbury Sailing ad Yacht Club to bring together all who enjoy the simple pleasure of the actions of wind, water and sail. Shrewsbury is about its people, about the love of sailing and about the camaraderie that draws sailors together. We are a volunteer organization, run by members for our mutual benefit and for the betterment of the club and the sport of sailing. We work to encourage and preserve the art of sailing and navigation, maintaining one of the top junior sailing programs in the northeast, and one that has produced many national and international champions. At the same time, we continue to promote a top-flight one-design racing program for both adults and children, sailing seven active fleets from April through October.
